8 Travel Hacks To Save Money And Have More Fun

Home / Travel Tip / 8 Travel Hacks To Save Money And Have More Fun

Place one hand on your keyboard, raise your other hand in the air and repeat after me: “I solemnly swear to never, and I mean never, use a currency exchange vendor at an airport… unless I use the trick I’m about to learn.”

Ok good. Now that we’re on the same page there, you’re ready for these hacks…

Here’s a list of 8 travel hacks that will help you save money and have more fun.

1. Technology Packing Hack

In my quest to get and stay organized when I’m on the road, finding a solution to keeping my technology accessible, safe and organized is at the top of my list.

Now instead of rifling through my bags and spending way too much time detangling a cord or cable, I keep all of my chargers in a convenient pouch. (Ok, so it’s a girly makeup kit turned tech organizer, but it works!)

The Knomad Portable Organizer is at the top of my list. It’s practical and sleek at the same time.

Another trick for keeping rogue cords under control is to use an old sunglass case as a storage case. A cheap and easy trick!

2. Trip Cancellation Hack

Plans change, life happens and sometimes we can’t follow through as planned.

If you find yourself having to cancel a hotel room but the cancelation policy isn’t on your side – never fear…Roomer is here!

RoomerTravel.com is a website that sells hotels and vacations that can’t be used or refunded. It enables you to “sell off” the reservations you’re not able to use. Better than letting it go to waste and you’re providing someone with the opportunity to have an amazing trip!

3. Snack-Attack Hack

Don’t let being “Hangry” spoil your travel adventures! Pack some of your favorite travel-friendly snacks before you leave on your trip. Avoid fruits and vegetables (and other live foods in general) and opt for pre-packaged snacks that keep you feeling full and energized!

My favorite go-to’s are beef jerky, nuts, protein bars or travel protein shakes. Super simple to pack and they’ve warded off my “hangry” side many times.

Krave Jerky is my current go-to! It’s good quality and they have tasty, unique flavors.

4. Packing Hack

Ever heard of a capsule wardrobe? It’s a practical concept that just makes sense. The idea is that you have a set number of pieces in your wardrobe that you update on a more a regular basis.

Each piece is versatile and can be worn with multiple clothing items in multiple ways.

Next time you’re packing for a trip, get strategic about what you throw into your suitcase. The result? More time to enjoy your vacay!

I’m wishing I would have thought about this concept sooner (yes, I’ve been guilty of lugging around WAY too). It just makes sense.

5. Flight Hack

Get the best flight routes at the lowest prices with Dohop. It’s an easy-to-use website that was voted the best travel booking site by the USA Today and 10 Best. Definitely worth checking out because come on… What jet-setter doesn’t want the best of both worlds?

6. Health Hack

It’s important to stay healthy and energized when you’re on the go! A good rule of thumb I live by on the road is “An electrolyte-drink a day, keeps me hopping away.”

Electrolyte mixes (like Nuun) are usually combined with vitamins. A super convenient way to stay hydrated and nourished in any climate.

Here’s one more tip health hack that’s more unconventional. Always travel with oregano oil. Oregano oil is an herbal essential oil that helps ward off (or kill) colds and other common bugs.

7. Accommodation Hack

Planning a long-term trip and don’t want to rack up a huge hotel bill? Check out Air BnB or VRBO for a more “home-like” option.

Want to experience the finer side of life in a fancy hotel for a long-term stay? Check out our Five Star Freedom System.

8. Currency Exchange Hack

You already know how I feel about currency exchange vendors at the airport but there might be times when you get caught empty handed in a foreign airport.

Here’s an easy trick to get more bang for you buck…

Most airport currency vendors have online services that offer a better exchange rate. Simply go online, purchase the currency at a better rate, then collect your money in person from the airport vendor.

Badda-bing! Badda-boom! You’re ready to rock and roll.

Enjoy!
