Your 48 Hour Guide To Exploring Austin, Texas

Last week I was in Austin for an event and lucky for me, I was able to squeeze in some play time!

This city is one of my favorite places to visit for a few reasons… It’s not your cookie cutter city. It has character, the people are down to earth and friendly, and there’s always something to explore and experience.

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway or your travels happen to take you to Austin, here’s a list of my top to-do’s in the city.

1. Explore South Congress Street

This famous street is home to good eats and quirky shops you can get lost in. From antique shops, to costume shops and the biggest cowboy boot shop I’ve ever seen, you’re guaranteed to see things that make you look twice.

Uncommon Objects is a store with many (somewhat bizarre) treasures. And thanks to Allen Boots, I’m now a proud owner of my first pair of cowboy boots. (They’re surprisingly comfortable!)

South Congress Cafe is a great place to fuel up. It’s usually lined up out the door, but the wait is worth it!

Hey Cupcake! is stationed on this street too. It’s hands-down my favorite food truck I’ve come across to date. The cupcakes are delicious and they’re gluten-free and vegan friendly, an added bonus if you have food sensitivities or allergies.

2. Experience The Nightlife on 6th Street

This gorgeous historic street is known as the entertainment district in Austin. There’s great places to dine and a ton of bars to hop around to. I had a great dinner at Parkside restaurant. Delicious food and great atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out.

I also dined at Swift’s Attic. Not on 6th street, but I loved the menu and the service was top-notch!

3. Enjoy The River Trail

There’s an amazing trail that runs along the river. The city views are stunning and it’s the perfect place to get your sweat on.

4. Indulge In Texas BBQ

I’ve always heard about the Texas BBQ’s and now I’ve experienced one! I’m not sure how they do it, but the beef is juicy and tender and cooked to perfection! There was a huge assortment of food to try. Make sure you work up an appetite before checking this one of your bucket list!

5. Fuel Up With Bulletproof Coffee

If you’re a fan of the latest coffee trend (a special concoction of MCT oil, butter and a few other things), stop by Picnik. They have blankets out on the grass and it’s the perfect place to take a break and relax.

And if you ever start to take life too seriously, Austin will gladly remind you to “Stay Weird”.

It’s refreshing to visit a city where the uncommon is actually the common.

Happy Travels!
