Home / Bucket List / Escape To This Icelandic Winter Wonderland & Bask In The Silky Waters of The Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa

I’ve found the next addition to my ever-expanding Bucket List…

  • Spend long hours soaking in warm natural waters rich with healing minerals…
  • Soften my skin with a silica mud mask and in-water salt massage
  • Breath in humid soothing air in a steam room carved into the side of a mountain…
  • Rest in a cozy sauna surrounded by lava rock…
  • Bask in a beautiful warm waterfall
  • Read a good book in a plush robe while curled up in a glass solarium surrounded by snow
  • Then spend the night in a beautiful 5-star oasis built into the natural landscape.

It’s all possible in just one day at the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa in Iceland.

Known as Bláa lónið in Icelandic, the Blue Lagoon is much more than a heavenly winter wonderland escape, the spa actually has some amazing healing benefits

It’s mineral-rich geothermal waters and silica mud have been known to cure various skin conditions. The Blue Lagoon also has a center for skin treatments and CranioSacral Therapy.

The geothermal water originates 2,000 metres below the surface, where freshwater and seawater combine at extreme temperatures. It is then harnessed via drilling holes at a nearby geothermal power plant to create electricity and hot water for nearby communities.

On its way to the surface, the water picks up silica and minerals, before emerging at a soothing 38°C (100°F). Perfect for a relaxing and re-energising bathe…
