Snorkel Amongst This Eerie Collection of Stone Sculptures At Cancun’s Underwater Museum

To me this looks more like an underwater zombie apocalypse than a museum…

But that’s probably why it intrigues me so damn much. Located in Cancun, Mexico, this underwater collection of 470+ stone sculptures is something to see.

According to Aqua World, the huge influx of visitors over recent years have has a toll on the natural coral reef sites and underwater ecosystems in the gulf. So the Cancun Underwater Museum was created to provide a unique alternative for visitors to explore and watch the marine life. Today these eerie statues are covered with algae and polyps of Coral, creating the largest artificial reef in the world.

We are headed to the Mexico at the end of February and this is something we are DEFINITELY going to check out. Here’s what we have to look forward to…

I get the heeby-jeebies just thinking about floating on the surface of the ocean with these below me… zombies can’t swim, right?

(I watch too much Walking Dead).

Adios amigos!
