Petra was the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans and was known as Raqmu. It was lost to the world for centuries until it was discovered again in 1812 by the explorer Jean Louis Burckhardt.
The remains of their innovative networks of water capture, storage, transport, and irrigation systems can still be seen in this ancient architectural marvel. Currently, only about 15% of the city has been uncovered meaning there are many more surprises to come!
